Did Divine Intervention Save the USS Liberty?

A little over forty eight years ago off the coast of Gaza an American ship called the USS Liberty was in International Waters, doing what the US Government ordered them to do.  Saying the ship was lightly armed would be an understatement to say the least.  The well equipped IDF was out to put her to the bottom in any way they could, and they had all the weapons they needed to do so.  As a crew member and survivor, I have looked back on this attack, and determined that it had to have been intervention such as we have never seen, that kept the Liberty from going to the bottom.  Had I been one of the IDF, I would have been amazed at the fire power that was leveled on the Liberty, and still she remained afloat.  I won't make this a long article, since it doesn't need to be.  It should suffice to say that in normal circumstances the Liberty would have went to the bottom with all hands aboard, but those circumstances were not normal, and a power such as I have never seen kept the Liberty from going to the bottom.  I will never take any credit for what I saw God do on that day, not one ounce, because it would detract from this story, and that not the reason I write it.   For those that have asked me over the years about the attack, it is the very reason I am putting this out once more.  Can you not see ladies and gentlemen the force that was thrown at us?   Can you not see that every conceivable weapon was leveled on us that day?  What you need to see is that nothing was going to put the Liberty to the bottom, I would venture to say not even an atom bomb.  It was ordained that she would stay afloat, and indeed she did just exactly that. Maybe words are not enough to drive this home, but it happens to be the only tool I have.  Please listen and understand.  God did indeed save the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967.  Had he not, I would not be here to tell this story.     Ron Kukal USS Liberty Survivor  Petty Officer in Charge of Body Recovery and Identification..
